Maintenance Matters: Hidden Issues that May Be Shortening Your HVAC System’s Life

Why is preventative maintenance important to your heating and air system? Why get a check-up when you’re not having any issues?

As the old saying goes, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” Problems within your heating and air system may be developing by the day without you even knowing.

Just like a good annual check-up at your doctor, a maintenance visit from an experienced and thorough HVAC company can catch issues that would soon become a problem, leading to costly repairs or even dangerous conditions for your home. Here are some examples of issues we’ve found that are silent threats…

• Clogged Drainage Pipes: A very common issue! If we catch it early, we can prevent overflowing and the worst-case scenario of a ruined ceiling.

• Damaged Heat Kit: Heat kits are found in all AC systems and work by heating the air flowing above them. This can cause cracking and melted wire, and even pose a potential fire hazard for your entire home. For gas furnaces, cracked or rusted-through heat exchangers can cause carbon monoxide poisoning which is extremely dangerous.

• Damaged of Dying Motor Capacitor: An underperforming capacitor can cause real problems for your HVAC system. If, for example, a motor capacitor on an indoor fan goes bad (as in the picture below), it can cause the motor to run hot. The longer it runs in this condition, the shorter its life becomes. If we can catch it early enough, we can repair and prevent burnout.

Don’t wait until it’s too late. Preventative maintenance saves you headaches and money in the long run. Give us a call today for a regular check-up on your system.
